13 Weeks to a Better Me – Challenge Week 5!

Y’all… I have had one of those weeks. It wasn’t a bad week, but it has felt soooo busy! First of all, my baby girl started crawling. She’s been getting close for a while and just a few days ago it finally all clicked for her. She’s still slow and looks like a new baby turtle, but I am one proud mama!

I started potty training my 2 year old this week… This is about the third or fourth attempt, but I’m trying some new methods and sticking with it this time! And he’s actually doing really, really well! Again, I’m a proud mama! He still has a ways to go, but he’s making far more progress than he has in the past so I’m very hopeful.

Then, my sister asked if she could book a last minute flight out to visit. To which I replied, Um, YES! Of course family can come visit, anytime! She lives in Texas and I live in Washington, so we don’t get to see each other very often. She managed to get a flight for Tuesday (as in, just a couple days away, Tuesday!) which actually worked out perfectly because my husband is flying out for a church-related trip that same day, so I’ll just drop him off, kill some time with the kids, then pick her up! Yay! I’m so excited to have her come, and that she was able to be here while my hubby is gone!

Anyway, on to the challenge…

Week 4 in Review

So I’ll be honest with you. With everything going on, I really haven’t done a lot of tracking or focusing on my previous challenges this last week. It’s been so hot that I don’t think drinking enough water has been an issue, so there’s that! But my morning routine hasn’t gone great, nor has my quiet time routine (I’ve reverted back to using the Bible app…sigh).

However, I did get some budget work done as part of my Week 4 challenge! I have a decent budgeting system in place (which I plan on sharing at some point!), but no matter how great the system, you still have to keep track of expenses, and I’ve let my tracking slide the last several weeks. It was a little overwhelming to get through, but I got all caught up!

Week 5 Challenge

I’m trying to keep this post short and sweet today, but my new challenge this week is to follow a meal plan and start making freezer meals. I actually got a head start on this! For the month of August, I decided to create a meal plan that is primarily freezer-Crockpot dump meals.

A “dump” meal means you “dump” the ingredients into a freezer bag, and then “dump” them into the Crockpot when you cook them. There is no cooking as part of the prep work. I chose this specific type of meal because I wanted my mealtimes and meal prep to be as super easy as possible!

I will be 100% honest with you. I’ve gotten a tiny bit behind and overwhelmed with the added load that blogging has put on me. There is just SO MUCH I feel like I need to learn about the blogging world and I always feel 3 steps behind. I’m also far too disorganized and unfocused, which has been making it difficult to make any progress – which makes me feel even MORE overwhelmed, because of course I want to succeed!

It’s certainly been more of a challenge than I expected it to be to work on blogging, along with taking care of my babies, keeping the house at least somewhat clean, cooking meals for my family, and making sure I still have some quality time with my husband.

Now, I am loving blogging and have no regrets whatsoever! But it’s certainly been a learning curve. And I realized about a week ago that I needed to figure out some ways to get myself more organized – in all areas of my life – so I can handle everything better.

One solution I came up with was to simplify our family meals. I wanted meals to be as easy and hassle-free as possible, so I decided to do as many freezer Crockpot dump meals as I could this month. I still have some “regular” meals on the plan, along with a few nights scheduled for leftovers, but the majority of the meals this month are freezer meals!

I am so excited about how much extra time and peace of mind this will give me. It’s one less thing to have to worry about! I have my meal plan finished and hung up on our command center, so each night I just need to grab my meal out of the freezer and put it in the fridge. Then the next morning, I’ll toss it in the Crockpot as a new part of my morning routine.

  1. Woo hoo! I’m so excited to go out and see you! XD
    You don’t have an Instant Pot, do you? Mom’s been hooked on that lately. I’d say the best advantage with that vs. ye olde Crockpot is it condenses the cooking time for meals and meat comes out reaaaally tender. But sometimes it’s easier to just stick something in for a few hours and forget about it haha.

      Yay!! I’m almost counting down the hours until I get to see you, I’m so excited!
      Haha I do have an instant pot, but I’m still not super familiar with it yet. For now I’ll stick with my good ol’ Crockpot, and then as I get my time more organized and feel like I can handle it, I’ll work on figuring out the Instant Pot. 🙂
